Simon Armitage – Poet Laureate reading from Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic
October 6 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm£12
Described as ‘the Auden of his generation” and “as popular as Philip Larkin.”, Simon Armitage’s well-deserved appointment as UK Poet Laureate puts him in the footsteps of Ted Hughes and Carol Ann Duffy.
He plans to use his honorarium to fund a prize or event promoting poetry on Climate Change, insisting that all art forms need to react to this situation: “It is unignorable…it is a subject-matter fit for our age.” He will read from his latest collection of poetry, Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic, along with others from his varied career as a musician, poet and playwright.
Simon Robert Armitage, CBE, FRSL is an English poet, playwright and novelist. He is professor of poetry at the University of Leeds and succeeded Geoffrey Hill as Oxford Professor of Poetry when he was elected to the 4-year part-time appointment from 2015-2019.
