Flash Fiction workshop with Vanessa Gebbie
September 14 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm£20
The Wonderful Worlds of Flash Fiction!
Flash, short-short, drabbles, dribbles, sudden fiction, micro-stories, twitterature - those are just a few of the many names for this fun, engaging, yet slippery of beasts. But what exactly is a flash, and what is it not?
This is your chance to find out, and follow where the greats have led; join Calvino, Faulkner, Lydia Davis, Chekhov, Kafka, H P Lovecraft, Hemingway, Bradbury, Vonnegut, and many many more. Join the writers who are enjoying the challenges of flash fiction today - in this session, you will be looking at some superb and varied modern works to see what makes them tick. And you will be writing - a lot! Using tried and tested games and writing prompts you will have a very busy few hours, crafting your own flashes, planning others.
Find out how flash techniques can help bust the dreaded writers’ block, and what can we do with them when we’ve made them? For example, find out how a single piece of flash fiction grew and grew until it became a novel…
You will leave with plenty of ideas for further exploration, and sharper tools in your writers tool kit. And finally, because your tutor never asks you to read out your first draft work, relax. Just be the best writer you can be. Vanessa is a novelist, short-story writer and poet. www.vanessagebbie.com
