Children’s Poetry Project Celebration and Book Launch
Saturday, October 10 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Free tickets, by invitation only, to the young poets and an accompanying adult.
We are organising two events for the poets from Adur District Schools who took part in our Poems for Our Time project. Each event will last approximately an hour. There will be a performance from Kay Walton, of Rap’n’Rhyme, who created the online resource. The young poets can collect their own copy of “Lines from the Lockdown”, the collection of the children’s poetry, and they will be congratulated by Councillor Neil Parkin, the Leader of Adur District Council.
We also received poems from children attending other West Sussex Schools which are also featured in the book. We will be delivering books to these poets via the individual schools.
10am event is for the young poets and their accompanying adult from:
- Sompting Village Primary School
- St Nicholas and St Mary CE Primary School, Shoreham
- The Globe Primary Academy, Lancing
- Buckingham Park Primary School, Shoreham
1pm event is for poets and their accompanying adult from:
- Glebe Primary School, Southwick
- Swiss Gardens Primary School, Shoreham
- Eastbrook Primary Academy, Southwick
- St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, Shoreham
The event has a Covid-19 Risk Assessment:
The event is being planned using Government and Public Health guidelines to ensure that everyone will be safe. There will be one-way entrance and exits from the car park to the rear of The Shoreham Centre. There will be only two people per group, the young poet and an adult. Each pair will be seated with full social distance between other people. The venue and seating will be sanitised and the venue will have plenty of ventilation. Facemasks for adults should be worn during the celebration.
The children will be very familiar with Covid -19 safety measures in place in their schools, one way systems and keeping a safe distance and we are sure that they will understand and comply with the restrictions.
The free tickets will be obtained online and all contact details will be taken. The names and addresses will be kept for 21 days, in case they are required for contact track and trace in the event of a positive test for Covid-19.
